Gradon Tripp’s Social Media Resume

Nice to meet you! I’m a Boston-based social media, technology and design aficionado. I have an intimate knowledge of the ways social media can help businesses, non-profits, and individuals.

But before I get into that, allow me to introduce myself.

Intro to my Social Media ResumeMy intro to my social media resume on gradontripp.com

For the past 10 years, I’ve worked in either sales and marketing, or customer support and operations for a number of technology companies. I got my start in the telecom industry, working with Verizon. Since then, I’ve worked in internet advertising with AutoTrader.com, audio and web conferencing at Netspoke (now part of Premiere Global Services), and GPS vehicle tracking with Teletrac. I currently work in the Internet Operations department of a leading pharmaceutical publishing company.

What I’ve learned from my experiences with each of these companies is that the only way to be successful in any industry is to listen to what your customer wants, and provide exactly what they’re asking for — and that the only way to accomplish true engagement is to begin a conversation, rather than simply pushing for the sale.

Social Media Life

I’ve been involved in social media since before there was a term for “technology that allows multiple people to communicate over the Internet.”

I originally started as a participant on various auto-enthusiast forums. Over time I became a moderator, and eventually took over the now-defunct AltimaDriven.com.

As Web 1.0 grew up to become Web 2.0, I dove right in. MySpace. Facebook. LinkedIn. Twitter. Like the ideal subway line… if it connects, I’m ready to get on board.

DesignBoston

To that end, I started DesignBoston.org a little over two years ago. Through consistent writing and vigilant best practices, DesignBoston has become the largest Boston-oriented architecture/interior design blog.

Through DesignBoston, I’ve been able to interview notable industry leaders, such as Dwell Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Sam Grawe, in addition to covering such prestigious events as the International Contemporary Furniture Fair.

Social Media Event Organizer

I’m deeply involved in the Boston-area social media world, and am an enthusiastic and regular attendee of conferences and “Tweetups”. In September, I organized the Boston leg of Sarah Lacy’s User Generated Book Tour. My face is a fixture on the scene.

Social Media for Social Change

Recently, I established Social Media for Social Change, an organization that focuses on bringing the social media community together to raise awareness for worthy causes, and celebrating how collaboration—both online and offline—can change the world for the greater good. In our first event, a fund raiser for Jane Doe Inc held at the Harvard Club in Boston, we were able to raise over $20,000.

Public Speaking

I am available for public speaking engagements. In October 2008, I teamed up with Rebecca Corliss for a presentatation at the United Nations Association of Greater Boston’s annual YPIC Conference.
