This was my Thanksgiving message I sent to my friends today:
May you remember to be grateful for all that you have - wealth, privilege, freedom, safety. You are always more fortunate than you think.

By wealth I do not mean only material things.
By privilege I do not mean only things related to class or race.
By freedom I do not mean only the chains which would restrict us.
By safety I do not mean the power of guns and bombs.

Wealth includes those we love, those who love us, and the community we share with each and every living thing. The world is a bountiful place if we stop and take the time to look around us.

Privilege includes the things I am provided for on the basis of my birth, in a wealthy nation, with a good education. It includes my mind and all my faculties, my senses, my values, and my ability to choose.

Freedom includes the ability to go and come as I please, to be unhindered in my ability to change my mind about where I shop, who I socialize with, where I work. Freedom to disagree with my government, my religion, my family if I choose.

Safety includes having a roof over my head, heat, clean water, stable society. The protection of police and soldiers, and neighbors who generally obey the rules of conduct.

I am ever grateful that I was born white, middle-class, in the United States. Though there are days I curse my country, in the end I do not know I would have fared better anywhere else. Regardless, I am glad I am here, and vow that I will continue to make today better than yesterday.

Happy Thankfullness Day.
