A few days ago, Todd Van Hoosear (who, like me, isn’t a fan of meme-tagging) went and tagged me on the What Change Will Obama Bring meme.

The day after Barack Obama won the election, I wrote about what I’d like to see.

But this isn’t about what I want to happen. It’s what I expect to happen.

The narcissist in me says that what will happen is politics. But the rest of me says that, while the enormous gain in optimism — in hope — may wane a bit as the reality of what we as a country are faced with comes in to full view, good things will happen.

The economy will reverse and be stronger — not immediately but by the end of Obama’s first term.

The war in Iraq will be less, but the one in Afghanistan will be bigger. As it should have been all along.

America will not be the biggeststrongestgreatest country, as it has seen itself in the past. But we will have a much better standing around the world than we do now.

Overall, it’s not going to be a huge change, but a reversal of course. A shift towards the better.
